Size and depth of AG root system

Hi pumpkin farmers,

I have been reading that AGs' require somewhere between 900 and 2500 square
feet of growing space per plant. What I am wondering is, if any of you know
how large and deep AG root systems get. If I were to prepare beds 10 feet
x10 feet by 1 feet deep, leaving 2500 square feet between beds, do you think
that would be appropriate? How about 15x15 by 1.5 feet deep?

I hope to start about 10 plants, therefore I cannot till the whole 2500
square feet per plant. What are others of you doing?

Thanks in Advance!

P.S. I am in central Missouri. I am thinking about starting my plants April
1st indoors and moving them to the outdoor beds around the 15th. Am I crazy
for starting that early? I need to complete in our state fair on August
9th, so I really don't have much of a choice.
