Re: Peat Pots V Plastic
This sounds a good method. I have some large plastic ring-culture pots as
used for tomatoes which might just be the thing, wider at the base than the
top. Will have to find something to go on the bottom. My only critisism
would be that i like to keep an eye on root development just as much as top
growth. It is absolutely crucial to plant an AG with a strong and vigorous
root system. With peat pots it is easy to see at an early stage which
plants have the best root development, the inferior ones can then be
discounted from use. I always make a few holes in my peat pots around the
side and in the base with a pencil to help the roots escape. Once i had
what i thought was going to be a really smashing plant, the seed leaves were
enormouse and it was just forming its first true leaf, no/barely any roots
coming out the pot though. It was discarded and one of its friends grow
instead. That was when i was growing 300LB'ers from hardware store seed.
Does anyone else on the list like to keep an eye on which plants have the
most vigorous root systems as i do?
Chris
