Re: vine borrers

I've been fighting the Borer Wars for some 14 years now and let me tell
ya, there aint no place i haven't found borers and borer eggs! their
favorite places to lay eggs are under the ends of the vines where they
just begin to curl up and the undersides of the leaves, also i have
found then inside the rinds of the pumpkins themselves and in the stems
and in the stump, i do not cover the stump only for rot reasons except
maybe a little sand, the stump end is easy enough to maintain as i like
to keep it exposed to the sun.
last year was a strange year in reference to insects, i had very low
numbers of cuke beetles and squash bugs as well as Squash vine borers,
as i only saw on adult all year and when i pulled and inspected my vines
in the fall there were no larva present!!! which has never happened in
14 years!! go figure?
