Re: vine borrers

Vine borers absolutely LOVE the stump. They cannot resist the meaty viens on the underside of the leaves. The stems are one of thier favorite places to get laid (the eggs...hee-hee). The main vine?...scrumptious!....as well as secondary vines , tertiary vines, quaternary vines. My clone last year was an Octiary vine...and it had secondaries(ninetiary) and a couple tertiaries(teniary vines)...all loved by the squash vine borer. I had a borer in the blossom end of my 565 squash of ' 99. I had a borer in the stem of the 255Andrews99 also. I've seen them on the tendrils. Ive had them on squash AND pumpkins....maxima AND pepo. I had them on Baby Boo and Atlantic Giants....zucchini too.I've had them on gourds and cucumbers...even though they're not supposed to like them so much.....I've had them up to HERE !!!! And finally...I have one right here...in a jar. I caught it last year. It has no legs...no antennae....half a wing...all the parts are there----but he's dead....or she's dead. Great therapy...give the jar a shake every now and then to get it out of your system.....shake it violently. Then do it again...its the least you can do..................G
