Re: Three Classifications........

in my opinion, every hobby grower is a winner, me included!  we don't have any contests in the UK to speak of (that i know about anyway) so don't have this problem.

 George and List
I have been discussing this subject with anyone with an ear and My Cat is tired or hearing it.. So I will post it to the list.. Here is my idea bounce it around then I will add a conclusion that will probably kill it but here it goes..............

Orange... % can be decided later.........................PUMPKIN
 Green.... TRUE GREEN .....................................SQUASH
Mixed or "Squmpkin gets a cool new name..........."UNLIMITED CLASS"

This way we all share in the pride of growing what you GOT with no embarrassment at the judges table...
Problem is that we have two distinct types of growers in this Hobby/Sport... I split it on purpose... You have...

Hobby... Growers who LOVE to grow things and are proud of everything they grow no matter what it looks like, who do it for the pure pleasure of testing there skills against nature and live to see the look in the eyes of a child as they behold what you have grown...... and if they win a contest more power to you, Icing on the Cake....

Sport... Winners want to win...... $$$$ has taken a driving role in there decisions, Will choose which weigh off to go to because they may be beat out of cash $$$ will choose what ever rout of thought will get them to the Winners table even if it leaves a bad taste in the mouths of the other contestants.. Remember Winners want to WIN !!

As long as we understand the rules in which we have to deal with we can fairly attempt to deal with the problem....

Here is my conclusion ..... I will borrow a Quote........
""Regardless of how many "classes" we have the final call is still in the hands
of the judges......""

No, my friend that is not true it is and always will be in the hands of the "PROMOTERS and SPONSORS"  Remember if you can't get a Sponsor to put money up on an UNLIMITED CLASS pumpkin then the Sport Growers will "SQUASH" the idea ... OK my Friends I will step down from the soap box Take care and Happy Easter !!!!
