ground space

I live in a city and have a limited garden to grow a giant pumpkin. I
should have the room (convert half of my backyard into planting space:),
but I have read conflicting ideas on the area _needed_ to grow a big one.
Could you give me your info on how much space it will take? Or even
better, the _smallest_ amount of space needed? Thanks :)
