Re: Excel Pumpkin Growth Spreadsheet & OTT

Mike -
I was the one who modified the George's Excel program with his
permission to give an estimate of a pumpkins weight at the request of a
few growers. Plus I knew that some people like to keep track of their
pumpkins size in terms of estimated weight not just measurements.
I used the OTT to weight formula developed with a lot of work over the
years by Bob Marcellus with his permission. I think that it is good that we
can change or modify others ideas to fit our own needs or preferences.
My question is how does using a formula make for errors at various points ?
at which points do the errors show up ? and why is a chart better ? I'm not
familiar enough with Len S.'s chart to know the differences between it and
Bob M. formula. I didn't think that there were any errors in my modification.
If there were then please let me know what they are. If there wasn't any error
but you just wanted to fiddle with the program - that is fine with me, but please
don't state that there was a error in it, because there are several people using
it. I guess what I am asking is did you switch to Len's chart vs the formula
because you liked it better or are there real errors in the modification that I did
last year ?
thanks

Two or three years ago someone (I Think G.Brooks, sorry if memory doesn't
serve) made an Excel spreadsheet for tracking pumpkin growth, and many other
elements, available to anyone on the list who was interested. AN EXCELLENT
WORK! Among Many other things, that sheet gave an OTT totals. You then would go to a stand alone chart to determine weights.

Last year someone (sorry, I don't recall who) added to the sheet by adding a
column to the sheet that used a formula to take the OTT total and convert
that to an actual weight. This was a Great addition to the sheet, but using
a formula, rather than a chart, made for errors at various points.

I have removed the formula and added the data from L. Stellpflug's January
1999 OTT chart so that OTT measurements now read Len's latest chart.

This revised spreadsheet can be freely downloaded from the following
location. I encourage everyone to use this spreadsheet as the data can then
be shared using a uniform data collection method. It will be an invaluable
reference for the grower and anyone else it is shared with.
