Two or three years ago someone (I Think G.Brooks, sorry if memory doesn't
serve) made an Excel spreadsheet for tracking pumpkin growth, and many other
elements, available to anyone on the list who was interested. AN EXCELLENT
WORK! Among Many other things, that sheet gave an OTT totals. You then would
go to a stand alone chart to determine weights.

Last year someone (sorry, I don't recall who) added to the sheet by adding a
column to the sheet that used a formula to take the OTT total and convert
that to an actual weight. This was a Great addition to the sheet, but using
a formula, rather than a chart, made for errors at various points.

I have removed the formula and added the data from L. Stellpflug's January
1999 OTT chart so that OTT measurements now read Len's latest chart.

This revised spreadsheet can be freely downloaded from the following
location. I encourage everyone to use this spreadsheet as the data can then
be shared using a uniform data collection method. It will be an invaluable
reference for the grower and anyone else it is shared with.

Perhaps Mike Nepereny might want to create a link from his great CucurByte
 site so a
constant reference to this file is available.

If interested click the link below and sign in as "Anonymous" with no
password required and then copy the file to your hard drive. DO NOT LINK to
this location PLEASE. Please let me know if you have trouble with
downloading as this is my first effort at creating a ftp link from an email.
Any comments such be made outside the list please.

The reason I didn't use OTT as part of the daily measurements is I'm trying to
track even small growth rate changes to find out the effects of weather,
fertilization and water. OTT cannot record accurately small growth rate
changes because two of the measurements come from the surface of the ground.
It is still the best way to estimate weight but your OTT usually is bigger
when measured from a hard flat surface. If you grew the Pumpkin on a board
you could use the OTT for this purpose. I record measurements every day so
that would mean 3 measurements for OTT, not sure I'm up to that intensity. I
do record the OTT periodically in the notes column though.
