I remember doing a lab when I was in school. We purposely damaged bean
and corn seeds to see what effect there would be on germination. What
happened was kind of a surprise. The damaged seeds seemed to be more
vigorous growers than the undamaged control group. As long as the pointed
end of the seed is not completely broken off, I would plant it. The rounded
end can take more abuse, it only contains a food source for the plant prior
to photosynthesis beginning.
My opinion is to plant in peat pots, and then decide. You will know by
the time the first true leaves form. By this point, the plant is beginning
to manufacture its own food and developing an extensive root system that
will support a larger plant. If you don't plant, you will never know. The
only loss will be some peat pots and a little potting soil.
