Mike,
I attended the Woodland meeting with the auction and did not attend Canby.
A few of the seeds that were auctioned were also in the boxes of seeds that
were for sale. The auction list and the list of seeds that were in the
recent newsletter were different. Many of the seeds on the auction list
were not available for sale or included in the seed distribution plan for
members. Some of the seeds that some members will get in the distribution
plan were also available for auction. I don't think there was any intent to
drive up prices on any seeds. I think all those who were present realize
that the auction benefits the group. Noone seemed to be resentful of the
way it was conducted, I certainly wasn't. I was able to obtain a 916 LaRue
97 at auction which produced my largest pumpkin for me last year and a 725
Richart 96 which I will be planting this year. When I checked the boxes of
seeds for sale I found another 725 seed in there for a dollar less than I
had bid. I think it may be worth at least a buck more than what I paid for
it so someone will be getting a bargain when they have the opportunity to
buy it. The PNWGPG will be represented at a booth at the Puyallup Spring
Fair. This will be April 16th, 17th, and 18th at the Puyallup Fairgrounds
in Puyallup WA. We will have members manning a booth and seeds available
for sale.
And in answer to Craig Sandvik's question, start watching your mailbox.
Members who attended the meeting were given their seed packets there. The
others should be in the mail soon. As for the selection.... I don't think
anyone will be disappointed. Everyone who's paid up at this time has at
least two 900+, two 800+, two 700+ and two others in the 400 to 600 lb.
range. Those on the family plan get a few more.
If you need further clarification and I can help email me privately. I hope
this clears things up for folks.
