From the sidelines...

Greetings Group!
I just wanted to check in to say I'm back on the list and
watching from the sidelines here in east central Alabama.
I went through what seemed to me like a long winter, only
to decide to sit this year out as far as attempting to grow
the Queen Mother Atlantic Giant. Weather forecasters predict
a long, hot, very dry summer for this portion of the U.S., and
after last summer's scorcher, I guess I will pay heed to their
words. My only water supply for pumpkins is my sister's
well, which I almost ran dry last year very early in the season.
I measured no rainfall from mid June through mid September
in 1999, and saw a lot of very hard work fall victim to the heat.
I'll just wait until I can remedy some of the problems that are
associated with these babies and give it a shot then. So, to
each of my AG growing friends (Mike Nepereny, Frank Millican,
Bob and Alice Attaway, Barb Kincaid, Doug Adams, Scott
Armstrong, Alan Reynolds, Shellie Cramer, Diana Doucet,
Glenn Peters, Wayne Kennedy, Nic Welty, Brett Hester,
Rocky Rockwell, Nathan Buntrock, Dan Shapiro, Craig Sandvik,
John Barlow, Bob Troy, Scott Lial, Jim Kunde, Chris Michalec,
Zach Lippman, Danny Smith, John Maston, Vic Thomas, Joe
Mills, Beth Rado, and the man responsible for the first AG seed
I ever carefully placed into a peat pot, Mr. John Castellucci,
and anyone that has ever given me seeds, advice or an encouraging
word) I wish you all the best year you've ever had in the patch,
and may you each break the scales at weigh-in time! I'm watching...
and taking notes...from my little spot of earth in east central
Alabama.

Sincerely,
Scott Parsons
Ashland, Alabama
