I have talked to heavy hitters, and I have a good BS detector. They are just
like the rest of us, only more so. They plant a lot of pumpkins and work long
hours at trimming, cultivating and feeding. During the winter they pore over
those charts of seed pedigrees. They lose a lot of big ones. And they get
some big keepers. Most of them say that the key to a real giant, say 1000+,
is in the luck of the draw of the seed, plus the hard work. Plus good weather
and no bugs, etc., etc.
