 My opinion is its not looking too good for the current main vine on your 
Reynolds. If you look further into the "ball" of leaves at the growing tip 
you are likely to see more of the "multiple vine" situation.....this is when 
the plant puts additional leaves/side vines/tendrils etc from the area thats 
only supposed to have one. It usually gets worse and the vine itself flattens 
out and looks like a pair(or more) of vines connected by thier sides. These 
plants tend to be more aggressive growers...as indicated by your 4+ inches a 
day....but never seem to put out big pumpkins on the flat/multiple vine. You 
will also have problems in warmer climates because you now have twice the 
amount of leaves you should with the same root system resulting in extra 
wilting. I had a 1092 go multiple/flat last year...it then split into two 
like a snakes tongue...but on the absolutely brutal advice from Barb....I 
Bobbitized it. I trained a side vine from the first 18" from the stump around 
the side to take its place .I actually had 50% shade cloth over the plant 
when it was a flat vine and couldn't keep it from wilting. I ended up pulling 
the 1092 and grew out the 879*Rockwell.
  So,it may be a blessing ......Id probably wait a week and see what the vine 
tip does,but then I'd hack it off and go with a better situated side vine 
from near the stump. No big ones have ever come from a multiple/flat 
vine....some good ones have come from side vines used to replace 
multiples,though no real monsters.
 First choice...go with the backup plant.
Second choice....whack it !! And train a side vine to take 
over............thats the view from here on Long Island........GlennA.
