tough start update

Very rough start in Boonville Ca. fungus abounds as the conditions in early
May were wet then hot then wet and cool nights creating the perfect
environment for fungus. Perhaps this fungus is always there and is
triggered into action when conditions help it go rampant.

Of course I was going nuts trying to figure what pale droopy leaves indicated.

Was it the overcast cloudy weather making the plants pale.
was the soil to cool to release nitrogen

Was there too much fert.
 Do they need water
were there any visible pests

I saw signs of powdery mildew sprayed the plants with fungicides

still slow growth.............it was clear it wasn't just the weather it
was obvious something was wrong in the root zone..

I yanked the 946....ouch...... and the roots had died back .....some sort
of root rot. I have seen sick plants snap out of it as they try and build
a new root system.........we also have seen the stumpless wonders...are
some of the lower average weights from root zone problems?? probably

I had to replant the whole patch and gave each site a fungicide drench. I
also planted plants all over the patch hoping to find an area where the
fungus doesn't exist.

It is thought that a plant gets ahead of its root system and will wilt
but i wonder if is really because of trouble in the root zone a
hinderance................in water uptake.....and if you have a plant that
is prone to wilting in the sun are you going to only throw a
500-600lber..........................I don't know but would be interesting
to watch and keep records..............staring at cotyledons and a little
behind schedule .....brock
