Re: Burpee Seeds

Steve,

If you want to grow really big ones, you need to get the
Atlantic Giant variety. Usually these are ordered via mail
from large seed companies, but I have recently found them
on a seed rack at our local "Fred Meyer" (kind of like a
Wal-Mart, but they are only in the Northwest area...). They
were packaged by the company "Ed Hume Seeds".

Beyond that, there is a whole science/art to growing the really
big ones. You should read "How to Grow World Class Giant
Pumpkins, I and II", by Don Langevin. Find 'em on Amazon.com.

Warm regards, Cliff in Pocatello, ID

Subject: Burpee Seeds

It looks like I made a mistake that I did not realize until I got on
to
this listserv. In the past I have grown, with a little success, 5 - 10
pound
pumpkins in my backyard. This year I decided to go big and bought
Burpee's
seeds for giant pumpkins. However, the label says they grow to 100 pounds.
I
thought this was big deal when I was buying the seeds. I now see that this
is
small pototoes, so to speak. I just tranplanted the seedlings into the
garden
two weeks ago.
Question. Is it too late for me to start the giant ones now? (It
would
be a while before I got them into the ground since I would have to mail
order
them, wouldnt't I ?)
Or would they only get as big as the ones I planted already.
Or do these Burpee seeds actually grow bigger than 100 pounds.
     Anyone know?
