RE: Soaker hose and the pit

Hi Ned,

I have been using the soaker hose and pit for several years now. It is
hooked up to a series of barrels mounted on a stand that keeps the bottom
barrel about 4 feet abouve ground level ath the outlet. They hold about 110
gallons of water. I fill the barrels almost daily and let them slowly empty
into the patch through the hoses. This has worked out well for me and I
have had no problems with any sort of root rot or excessive moisture in the
soil. I shut them down when we are getting rainfall. This year I am also
using some beneficial fungus in the patch to help prevent fusarium and other
fungal problems. Rootshield is one and Soilguard is another. I can't
remember exactly where I got the Rootshield. It was either Vesey's or
Territorial seed. Soilguard is a product from Gardens Alive. I ordered
from their catalouges, but I believe they both have websites as well. The
main thing is to keep an eye on the plants and give them what they need when
they need it. Good luck.
