This pH question has been piquing my curiosity this spring, as I study A&L
Labs' Agronomy Handbook (a bargain at $6). They, too, have a table of
Nutrient Availability in relation to pH, which is fascinating. I think we
traditionally have thought 6.5 to 6.8 was optimum, but should that be
adjusted? I've heard that Howard Dill aims for pH around 7.0. At least one
of the Checkons' 1100+ pumpkins was in pH above 7 - Larry, wasn't it 7.3?
Len Stellpflug told me the pH was 7.4 where he grew his 1056.5. It would be
very interesting to do a pH survey of all the 1000+ or 900+ pumpkins. Is
there some particular nutrient that is especially critical for AG's that is
more available at the higher pH's??

Conflicting info I guess but we need to stay within 6.2 - 6.8 for optimum
growth anyway. The info I got came from Dr. Bill Lord from UNH. (George
