Sounds like you are trying too hard.
It is not that difficult - and in my experience the worst
thing you can do is sprout them in a plastic bag.
They rotted I bet?
Here is what I do and get almost 100%
germination.
Using a piece of sandpaper lightly remove some of the edge
of the seed coat to aid in water penetration and make the seed coat pop off
easier. Just sand until the color of the edge changes. Soak overnight in a ice
cube tray with each compartment labeled. Use room temp or slightly warmer water
with a little plant food added. In the morning move soaked seed directly in peat
pot with sterilized growing medium (I use a peat/perlite mix with some sand
added) Plant 1/2 inch deep and maintain 85 degree temps until all are germinated
then lower temp and remove bottom heat (if supplied) and lower temp to 75. Get
plants outside as soon as practical to eliminate transplant shock -start as soon
as plants are out of the ground and a few hours each day in the shade -
increasing that time daily and gradually get them into some full sun so that
they are adjusted by the time you transplant them in the garden.

Subject: any assistance would be appreciated I am totally obsessed with giant pumpkins but I have no luck. My brother in
law gave me seeds which I tried every trick on to no avail. He then gave me
starter plants, which I had one looking like a champ, until a rabbit got to it.
He then gave me another batch of seeds which I tried every trick on with no
luck. I put them in a wet paper towel for a few days on a propagation mat. then
planted them, and after a week, nothings going on. If anyone has any
information or seeds they could let go of, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks so much =) Get more from the Web. FREE MSN Explorer download : http://explorer.msn.com |
