Pumpkins in NZ

After a debrief of this years pumpkin festival we have decided that next
years festival will be a monster effort. We have a nationally famous TV Chef
(Jo Seager)coming for the day to do demo's on '101 things to do with
pumpkins' as well as the usual pumpkin eats. Hope to get the local book
store to donate some of Jo's books so every pumpkin entered will have a
personally signed book. We are also going to grow plants to give away in
October as well as the seed. We only had one pumpkin left at the festival so
are lacking in seeds but enough people will have seeds to grow their own we
reckon.

We have also switched radio sponsors and will now be with Classic Hits 90FM
which should draw a much bigger audienceespecially the build up for the big
day. .

I will personally grow another few plants having had a year off I and so I
am now quite keen. I have some good seed from two years ago sent from you
fine people including some of Barb Kincaids specials. I will have some extra
funding this season (I lok after Councils events programme) so can splash
out and hopefully get some good acts for the big day. But that is a long way
away. I will be away for a few months (going to UK and Europe) in July and
August so will be quiet but will stay on line as the techo's reckon they can
transfer everything to a Hotmail address.

We have some gourd seed as well so that will be another class to enter.
Might up the ante on the prizes as well.

Our planting is in October so hope I can keep you guys informed of progress
as I have been a bit slack for the last few years.

All this has led me to start the compost heap in the middle of the vege
patch where the hole will be dug after I get back from my travels and the
fun can begin. We will have some competition from Steve Edwards In the
Waikato (Hamilton). Steve has been growing for some years and we will have a
friendly inter city comp'. Same with Tracy Wilson on the volcanic plateau
(brother - have they got warm soil) so it looks like it will be a good
season from April.
