Marv, I don't thing Sevin is the problem at all, it's a very mild pesticide in comparison to many others. I think what is happening is that the female flowers you are pollinating are aborting naturally, it's natures way of saying 'something is not right'. I read somewhere that it is used by some apple growers to reduce the number of blossums on a tree that become actual apples. This way they get fewer but larger apples. I have had problems some years with female pumpkin blossums dying rather than forming pumpkins after I pollinated them. Does anyone think that the use of Sevin as a pesticide on my pumpkins just might be contributing to this? I have started to use Sevin later in the season now, after I have some pumpkins going, as it is an effective pesticide against most everything except spider mites. It actually enhances the growth of spider mites in my patch and so I intermittently apply some Malathion which seems to eliminate them. > Marv in Altoona > > --------------------------------------------------------------------- > Pumpkin-growing archives: http://www.hort.net/lists/pumpkins/ > To sign-off this list, send email to majordomo@hort.net with the > message text UNSUBSCRIBE PUMPKINS --------------------------------------------------------------------- Pumpkin-growing archives: http://www.hort.net/lists/pumpkins/ To sign-off this list, send email to majordomo@hort.net with the message text UNSUBSCRIBE PUMPKINS
