I tried posting this to the list by e-mail last week but it never showed up,
so I went to the website to post it and it wouldn't let me log in for some
reason, (likewise with the forgot password--didn't recognize my username or
e-mail) so it ended up on BP. So I'm trying again with hopes of getting more
responses here. I'm pretty much copying it except for typo corrections.
I've had siamese things in the garden, and this year had both tomatoes &
peppers with tri-cots, but this month I started seeds of the 603.5 Muller
and the first one had the cotyledons stuck together, kinda scrunched up; I
thought nothing of it, then tried to separate them but they tore off. So I
started another of the same seed and this one took longer to sprout and it
looks like either a siamese or double vine right from the start--it looks
like 2 stems fused together and the seed leaves are having trouble opening
again! Looks like they may be siamesed or 2 pairs of cots instead of one.
I was hoping to grow something dark this year and went with stuff with the
801.5 in it, but should I try yet another 603.5 or should I move on to a
different seed? The 603.5 is the 845 Nesbitt selfed. I also have a few more
Nesbitts like 691 (801.5 sibbed), 845 (846 x 723), 868 (723 x 801.5), 1029
(723 x 845 Bobier) etc plus a 731 Stucker & 995 Carter. I went thru hell 2
yrs ago with both the 1020 Papez & 594 Smith going flat on me & hope to
avoid that situation if possible this year. May not be around next year so
would like to go out with a bang, something very nice shaped & dark colored,
even if it goes light to the charts.
UPDATE 5/21: I just checked it and there are either 3 or 4 seed leaves, 2
are cracked across the width as if to break off the rounded ends of the
cotyledons.
I direct seeded a filed 691 Nesbitt in a bed that's not the best, just in
case, but as late as it is, may still start the 845 or 868.
What's my chances of getting a 3rd 603 to do the same thing?
UPDATE 5/25: I also started the 845 Nesbitt (not up yet) and the 3rd 603.5
is just pushing the soil up now so should know something tonite or tomorrow.
Anybody else growing the 603.5 Muller & any characteristics you could tell
me about it?
I will try to post a pic of the problem 603.5, it looks like it may be a
tri-cot. Has anybody grown tri-cots to maturity successfully? I'm laughingly
thinking this is the "Year of the Tri-Cot" as I also had a Gold Bullet
Habanero and 2 different heirloom tomatoes go Tri this year--maybe because
of the leap year?!
Thanks.
