Growing up a few years ago on a farm, I was used to the "rag doll" test for
seed corn germination.  We took 100 seeds, wrapped them in wet paper and then
counted the number of seeds that germinated a few days later to determine %
germination for our seed corn.

I tried this several times on "expensive" AG seeds and lost most of them.

As I understand it, "Damping Off" is a major problem with these seeds.

Now I file the seeds and soak them for 24 hours.
I plant them in peat pots which are 85 degrees (in a cooler with a waterbed
heater)
I have had almost 100% germination over the last few years with this method.

My germination problems of the past were directly related to excess water and
lack of temperature.
