Did I plant the vines too close together?

I'm sure this is yet another stupid question but here it goes....Before I
realized that I should start my seeds in peat pots, I planted some 15-25lb
seeds directly in the ground.  Well, they have popped up and have already
grown about 2-3 ft in all directions. However, they are only planted about 3
inches apart.  I don't have the heart to pull one out. I love them! So, will
this hinder their growth?
