Hi Lime Users,
You must remember that Lime is very slow to obsorb into the soil. The
results
are not IMMEDIATE and you must give the soil time...usually a full year.
The soil
test for 8-10 bucks is the best investment any serious grower and make.
The lab
will tell you exactly what nutrients you need and soil ammendments for
the correct
pH for your crop of choice. Our Michigan State University CO-operative
extension
office has a wealth of pamplets on such things as lime, making a soil
test, and interruptation of the results. Your state university is a great
source of information and
of course the staff agronimist can also be a great help. Here in Michigan
we are lucky to have a school that is willing to help anytime I call. The
professors have been more
help than I thought possible...I have asked questions of Phd's in Bee
Keeping and
of course cucurbits. This is the only hobby that I know where you can
get a full
professor to help you in almost every aspect! So I say, support your
local land grant
university! How about the pumpking group sponsering some REAL
research..the
money would help students and would the best investment in Pumpkins we
could make.
Anybody listening?
Chuck in Swartz Creek, Michigan
