Denise wants to start an official weigh-off site

Hi, guys, I bet you all wondered what had become of me. Busy gardening.
Have five pumpkins in two-gallon pots at three true leaf stage showing
signs of flower buds at the leaf axils: they are the Anderson 977, 815(two
of these), and 643(or is it 634?) and the Langevin 963. Also have three
others sent to me later by Farmer Gus: the Lloyd, the Geerts and the
MacDonald, all of which are doing well at two leaves, though the
MacDonald(one tiny true leaf) is the most behind because of an experimental
planting in garden soil and chicken manure in a peat pot instead of proper
potting soil in a plastic pot. It took the longest to germinate - almost
two weeks, compared to seven days for the Geerts and the Lloyd and five
days for all the others. What can I say? I ran out of potting soil and was
feeling flush with high-quality-genetics pumpkins so decided to experiment
with the smallest-weight-genetic one I had.

SO! I now need an official weigh-off site, here on Saltspring Island. The
local publisher of our weekly newspaper who was my only competition at the
Fall Fair last year (in the category "heaviest squash" ) is interested in
my idea to sponsor a proper weigh-off with prizes. So how do we go about
being certified? I expect that Duncan's uncle Bill Verchere from Ladysmith
would travel here, and maybe there are other growers on Vancouver Island or
some of the smaller Gulf Islands who would also attend, who knows?
Do we have to form a Salt Spring Island Pumpkin-Growers' Association? We
have access to a large scale, but it's not a digital one, is that okay? We
want our weights to be eligible for consideration in the world results.
Fall Fair is third weekend in September, so results would be then.

>>Subject: Create a listing for Pumpkin Weighoff sites....

>>Please support this idea. I would like to create a listing of pumpkin
>>weigh off sites and their supporting membership address. If successful
>>with everyone's help, we will be able to send them to the archives or
>>make a homepage showing this listing. The sites provided on Dan's page
>>addresses only the weighoff sites, but for new members who would like to
>>join a local organization might want to become a member prior to the
>>weigh off. Sometimes the membership address is different than the
>>weighoff site, so if you would like to help your local site, now is the
>>time. If you have an address where they can submit membership fee,
>>please provide the address. I will provide an example for PNWGPG. I
>>have not listed Canada but will conduct this process if successful.

>>Please also identify the state you believe people will travel from to
>>weigh their pumpkin.
