I realize that by having everyone weigh on the same day that there are
definite advantages. One is a lot more publicity for the sport. There are also
some problems with doing it that way. One is that if you are a site
coordinator you have difficulty going to see any other site. Another is that
the are fall festivals in almost every locale. These are ideal for having a
pumpkin weigh-off as part of the event. We have a really large Fallfest here
that is always one week before the official weigh-off. We all take pumpkins
there but not our biggest or our best. I don't know what is right. I'll have
to think awhile before coming up with anything. I had originally felt that the
October 3 date could be the final date for weighing and that other sites could
precede that date but when that date came, it was over. I am too small a fish
in the pond to have a strong opinion. How do you think others feel about not
changing the way it has been done for all these years? I would hate to see
another divisive issue come before the group. In fact, it would be nice if
everyone could come back into one organization.....Howard Dill, Hugh Wiberg
and Ray Waterman. Wouldn't that be something?
