Barb,
The reports on the 4hers efforts are uplifting!
I wondered if most of that black compost was lawn clippings and if it was did
the homeowners use weed killer? I just considered that the predominant lawn
grass was St. Augustine carpetgrass with maybe a little bermuda mixed in. St.
Augustine chokes out the weeds, so homeowners use 10-10-10 with no weedkiller.
Boy do I miss the south! My fondest kinesthetic memories of childhood involve
walking barefoot on a thick St. Augustine frontlawn. You won't have to buy
fertilizer, if my assumptions are correct. Now if we could just cross kudzu
with AG's!
Mid Atlantic fescue is so tough to grow. Use Halts and weed n feed to have a
semi-decent lawn. Seed every fall or suffer next year. I can't use my grass
clippings in the garden due to the weed killers in the fertizlizer. My wife
insists on the weed killers because she no like crabgrass!
See you at Beth's,
Patrick Veltman
