Regarding seeds not popping up.
I had "prepared" (edges filed, soaked overnight, put in warm place etc.
etc) and unprepared seeds. The prepared seeds came up except for one,
within 72 hours. The unprepared ones took seven days. And, lo and
behold, the one prepared seed I thought had gone the way of all
protoplasm, came up after 15 days.
So the rule is that there is an exception to every rule.
