Dan-Where are you located again? I plan on planting my 1092 and 879 in my
backyard on Sunday(with protection)--its still pretty cool here on Long
Island..warms up nicely on the ground but the air is cool and very
breeezy-Atlantic Ocean effect! We get that cool(cold)breeze off the ocean
around three and temps go down to the high 30's still at night.
Glad to see the 1092 is doing well for you.Mine is about 6 " across the
cotyswith a first true leaf about 3-1/2 inches ,showing the beginnings of the
2nd leaf.I think I put it too close to the Rockwell 879,that Bully. Its three
days younger and is wider, taller and has two true leaves. The 1092 seems to
bend away from the 879 when I put them within 6 " of each other. Go figure!
The real contest will be when they're planted in the patch about 25 feet
apart growing towards each other.A choice will be made when they reach each
other. The Rockwell better be green and the 1092 better look good ...sort of a
WWF Ultimate Challenge if you would ! Or maybe a Thunderdome Movie..."two
plants enter, one plant leaves".(I say this out loud every day so they know
what they have to do)
The 1092#2 and the 879#2,#3 didn't make the initial cut due to rotting, and
lack of germination.Still waiting on another 879* for the other 5-6 plots
off-site.(yes,we want to give the rockwell ample opportunity)....The starting
lineup off site will be a free for all -show me what you got or get
going...and include:but may not be limited to:
1010Big MacKenzie,A Hester,738Stellpflug*,879*,A Welty,another Welty*,A
Reynolds Right Cross,Baby Dill672*1994,still waiting on Lyons 900.5*(probably
not gonna germinate),and two 539 Stellpflugs(doesn't look good).A Troy,a
Brooks and a Cramer have been farmed out next door where my neighbor will
attempt his second year at this also.(how convienient--a pollinator plot that
I don't have to maintain!).I will find room for a 418 Andrews also.Filed and
soaked 5 on Thursday night at 9 pm....put them in a baggie at 6 am
Friday.....had roots at 10pm Friday.Thats 25 HOURS for all you Germination
contestants.......its gonna be a good year........glenn
