Hello all. Glad to hear that everyone is getting started. I have a 793 Zehr
and 809 Welty that germinated today. I have spotted a nice little pumpkin
on my 827 Holland (this one will set a new state record) plant today that is
about the size of a pea. I also have another fruit on a 318 Welty that is
twice that size and may blosom in the next week. I have transplanted 539
and 595 Stellpflug, 900.8 Lyons, 794 Legras, and 827 Holland to my main
patch,a 539 Stellpflug to my mother's patch, and I have a 801.5 Stelts that
may make my last spot. I have many other seeds started and will plant some
in my pollinator patch, give two to my father, and another dozen to local
growers. I may have some extras after this, and anyone who needs seedlings
and wants to make the drive is welcome to contact me and take the extras for
free. I currently have a 539 Stellpflug available that needs transplanted
very soon. Just a note about the 539 and othter squash from the Stellpflug
line. They are generally smaller plants as far as square feet, but will
have the thickest vines and produce more per square foot than other plants,
so a note to Glenn, don't give up hope on your 539. Plant size dosn't
automatically correlate to fruit size.
My method for keeping the plants warm at night has worked tremendously well,
and I kept my plants at 65 degrees overnight when outside temperature was 29
without using any electric heat. Have any of you northerners planned to use
it this year?
Best of luck to all.
Nic Welty
