Re: pigeon droppings

Pigeon droppings should be ok if anything worries you compost it. Birds
feces are high in uric acid because of a lack of a urinary bladder.
Poultry manure makes great compost. Chicken manure is very powerful and
should be put in to the ground during fall or composted during that time
and added in the spring. I have used composted turkey manure for years,
this is a bit milder and very plentiful since I raise 140,000= a year.
My soil shows high levels of just about every mineral. Poultry manure is
very high in Calcium, phosphorus and zinc also can be high in salts,
which is not good. Soil testing I feel is vital once or twice a year to
adequately prepare the soil. By getting poultry manure wet (33%or so )
and stirring it up with a good carbon source like shavings or rice hulls
it will get to a heat range of 170 - 180 *. This will kill any pathogen
for the most part. I suggest keeping it covered to keep in the nitrogen
and other good stuff that will go into the atmosphere along with keeping
peace with the neighborhood.
