them.........................Wayne

I started 2 of the 625 seeds on 20 April. They sprouted in 4 days with heat
supplied by a heating tape wrapped around the bottom half of a polyethylene
jug full of SCHULTZ potting mix
The have now been outdoors for several days. With the threat of a
thunderstorm hanging over us, I brought them in until the weather passes. The
616's did not sprout after8 days. Dug them up and seeds looked just like
when I planted them. I sanded the next 2 and they eventually sprouted.
I will plant one of the 625's in my small patch and give the rest to my
daughter who has a >1 acre lot. Plants look good. I would have mine in the
ground by now but need the patch rototilled one more time.
My daughter grew a 200+ lb PWH from some 1997 seeds I started last year. She
planted it near her compost pile and the roots went into the pile. I told her
to save the seeds from the 200 lb'er. When I visited at Christmas time there
was 6 inches of snow on the ground and I could see the pumpkin monster
sitting on top of the compost pile. I asked if she had gotten the seeds out.
She said she was waiting for me to help. Although it was about 25 F out, we
got a hatchet and cut up the punpkins. The seeds were in a kind of frozen
slush. When we turned over the pumpkin, there was a neat little hole in it.
Some field mice that lived under an adjacent shed had been using it as a food
supply. This spring, they found the husks of hundreds of seeds in the shed.
They have three cats so that should minimize the mouse problem
We must have looked like idiots out there in the snow chopping up a frozen
pumpkin. I took the slush home melted it and washed the seeds. After they
dried, I tested them for germination and they were fine.
This will be our first year with AG's. It should be interesting.
We will keep you posted.
