I am no expert on septic systems, but when we built our house they told
me that all of the solids in the household waste settle out in the
septic tank. Only water (or something resembling it) actually gets out
to the field. There should be very little value, other than as a source
of water, in planting above the septic field. But, even then, the water
is supposed to go down into the ground -- not up toward the surface. The
roots would need to go deep to reach the water from a properly working
septic field.
If your field gets clogged by anything (solids, roots, etc.), you're in
for a hefty bill getting it cleaned and, probably, replaced.
I'd steer clear of the septic system.
