I would wait until they are "leaf to leaf" and then make the call. I would
at least try to leave them both in until I could use pollen from the "loser"
to make a cross or two, and then grub it out.
(Hey, that sounds like Exactly what I am going to do in my own patch
(different plants)....hmmmm.)
