Saturday night, the 28th of October 2000. The event
was the "who cares weigh off". Location was at the
Hoffman Dairy Gardens in Canby, OR. This event was
intended to clean out the patches of the PNWGPG, to
weigh all of the leftovers that never had the
opportunity to make it to a major contest. Growers
were allowed to bring as many pumpkins as they wanted
with no limit imposed. The large orange fruits started
to arrive at 4:00 PM and to the surprise of every one
in attendance the leftovers looked pretty good. At
this point in time none of us were expecting any of
the surprises that the night would bring. Who would
end up on top? The two favorites were both bright
orange pumpkins grown by Jack La Rue and Kirk Mombert.
To make it even more interesting they were the same
age and from the same parent seed the 801.5 Stelts.
The crowd was the largest yet to watch one of our
events, however the grower turn out was low with only
5 growers showing pumpkins. Even with the low grower
turn out our members did not disappoint the crowd.
. ......
