I know you are in Canada, and I don't know how much U.S. news you follow,
but perhaps you could send the pumpkin/squash question to the good folks
down in Florida and let them hash it out!
Barbara, Tim?? Any input from you Floridians??

Beth and Bill:
Current events aside, we Floridians can decide between a pumpkin and a
squash. After all, neither Tim or I reside in Palm Beach County, Broward or
Dade.
All kidding aside, we weigh our pumpkins independently. Lots of photos are
taken and results are officiated by State agriculture officers. No way to
call them any other way but factual.
The main thing to remember is to follow the GPC rules as best you can (they
are sound and fair), weigh your fruits on a certified scale and take lots of
photos in case anyone challenges your decisions. Keep your fruits clean,
stems trimmed and scale clean of dirt clods and debris.
If you have a pumpkin that's a close call, then have the guts to make a
decision one way or the other. You can't please everyone. Besides, what's
wrong with a squash, anyway? Have prizes for them, too. There's merit in
growing large vegetables and fruits! Those growers deserve credit. It's all
in great fun.
