Re: ?
Bill, Mike and others,
I agree with you Bill, a more concrete
method needs to be adopted.
'Intent' is an easy out. I can just
hear it now. "Well I know it looks gray,
but, my intent was to grow a pumpkin".
Mike, I must respectfully disagree. I
feel that if the fruit is not 'clearly'
orange, then it should be judged a
squash.
Over the three years I have read the
mailing list posts, about the only thing
everyone seems to agree on is that we
all take our fruits to giant 'pumpkin'
weighoffs. Ask a million Americans, a
million Canadians and a million
Europeans to describe a pumpkin and I
will bet all use the word orange in
their response.
Hopefully, all will realize I am in no
way trying to short the efforts
individuals have put into those fruits
that are not orange.
Now, having say that and alienated half
the list, I think you will find it quite
difficult to remove the emotions and
subjectivity from the judging process.
Even more difficult will be the task of
incorporating any local resolution into
the global judging arena. However. the
less 'black and white' we allow the
process to be the more subjective the
outcomes will be, and, the paler and
'yellower' and grayer and greener the
'pumpkins' continue to become.
