Hmm....I think calling someone you dont know a "Fool" and "Idiot" because
they feel differently than you about a topic is a bit rash and certainly
rude. To someone new to the sport, buying a collection seems like a logical
place to start. Imagine someone taking up a new hobby like golf or
hunting...if they have the means they'll get a new set of top notch clubs...a
golf bag.. a pair of shoes and maybe a 10 lesson plan with the club
pro....perhaps he's never swung a club before....but at least now he's got
the equipment, the lessons, and is ready to learn and take on the
hobby....for about 1500-2000bucks . Whats the difference?
Not everyone new knows whats available for free or friendship....certainly a
723Bobier ,845bobier, 940momberts etc...arent ! And not everyone knows the
unwritten "rules" about seed selling so they can avoid buying them. Seems
to me there's a lot of people more jealous that this guy (who I dont know
either) has the means to buy this collection than anything else.....and thats
just petty B.S.........give the guy a break and get on with Fall patch
prep......Glenn

Oh boy, I'm sorry.
Really, I'm not normally like this. I want apologize to
the buyer and everyone else on this list. My calling of
names was uncalled for. In fact, I got into this discussion
because I wanted to help "tone things down".
Bill, I don't know that I understand your post. I believe
that the buying and selling of seed is technically wrong
unless you have a license. I don't think we're on opposite
sides here. My whole point about Ebay is that you certainly
DON'T know what you're getting. If it were me I'd avoid
Ebay, when there are so many fellow growers out there who
offer seed for free.
Sigh, I'd really like to take it back, the name calling
that is. - Cliff

Subject: Re: PVP, Was: Seed collection
Well, I guess I can give my thoughts on this as well. First I don't blame the
buyer one bit he had an opportunity to buy some good seeds, and he did. know
this is just my opinion but I blame the seller for adding some tarnish to a
great hobby and I might add a great group of generous people. For myself the
off season fun is trading and sending out S.A.S.B.P to many growers for seeds
its like getting a Christmas present in the mail when they arrive. I might
add I have not had a single grower to date not send me some seeds in return,
And how sweet it would be to grow a world record from a free seed. Now I
think we all know the right thing would have been to pass the seeds along to
some group or friend but that didn't happen. The one thing we all need to
remember is the fundamental this great hobby is based on friendship sharing
and caring. If we all can remember that then this act of selfishness will not
tarnish this great hobby.

Well folks, as many of you know, i finally broke my previous best =
this year by 250 pounds. And this one wasn't a green one. Seeds are =
dry or drying, and should be ready to go in about a week. Here's a =
rundown of what i had this year:
785 Wolf 2001 (865 mettler x 791 Glasier) MV, 2 on plant, good tall =
blocky shape, light colored, but the cross should put a bit of orange =
into the seeds. This one was almost 100# heavy to the charts (depending =
on which ones you use), 7th at altoona
522* Wolf 2001 (535* Wolf x 616* Corkum) MV, 1 on plant. solid green. =
solid fruit. was 60# heavy. the 616 plant that i crossed it with threw =
orange.(or "threw up" as G would say) 3rd place for squash at altoona. =
Put it in my worst spot, going to treat one of my 535's nice next year =
and see what happens.
511 Wolf 2001 (914 Wentzell x 865 mettler) MV, 1 on plant. not a bad =
looking fruit, but my luck with the charts finally ran out here. =
weighed almost 100# light. 3rd at Elmira
498.1 Wolf 2001 (859 mombert x 791 glasier ) MV, 1 on plant. about 30# =
heavy. Had 2 shallow dill rings. Weighed 502 at the Clarence weighoff, =
which included the tarp. 20th at clarence.
And here's the others that didn't make it to weighoff this year for =
various reasons (mainly because i ran out of places to go) :
463 Wolf EST (815 andersen x 920 cole) 121-82.5-79, grown on secondary, =
poll. 7/22, tall shape, wish i would have weighed it, i'm sure it was =
close to or over 500. Solid right up till it was carved for halloween. =
very thick. Light orange colored, no green to it.
388 Wolf EST (920 Cole x 991 Hunt) 110-80-75 grown on a secondary, tall, =
almost wheel shaped, nice orange color.
360 Wolf UOW (865 mettler x 920 cole) 108-69.5-69 on a secondary on the =
same plant as my 785. weighed on certified digital scales at local =
recycling center. Picked the same day as the big one. weighed 40# =
heavy.
326 Wolf UOW (815 checkon x 920 Cole) 102-72-67 MV, wheel shaped. went =
to rot last week of august, chopped up into pieces and weighed.
260 Wolf EST (791 glasier x 920 cole) 103-60.5-65.5 Grown on secondary, =
good orange color.
210 Wolf UOW (991 Hunt x 865 mettler) wheel shaped, wrenched itself =
right off the vine in late august. white pumpkin.
All had and average number of seeds, except for the 463 EST, which only =
had about 200. If you want to plant one from it, let me know, or else i =
might not send any. Of course, if you would like to send some from your =
pumpkins, those are also welcome.
Anyone interested in some can send the sasbp to:
