I have my own yard care service, and use ALL the
leaves from every job I service. I used to use a hand held blower/ shredder [an
Echo brand....$200 or so bucks] which is time consuming. The mower is a bit
better, but there is yet one other method which I found that does a great job at
shredding mass amounts at a time. If you have a string trimmer with guts...not
some weak electric $30 trimmer, but a gas powered trimmer, then fill up the back
of the truck [if you have one] and fire up the trimmer, then let it rip 'em up
by putting the trimmer head down in the bottom of the truck and slowly bring up
the trimmer head as the leaves turn to dust and are obviously turned into dust.
A thick 1.05 trimmer line does the best to destroy and pulverize them the
fastest. It also lasts a lot longer than the thin stuff. I can usually handle 2
average homes with leaves before having to empty my truck. I also
don't have to jump up and down constantly on the leaf pile when the truck starts
to get filled. I must say it does get dusty doing it this way, so if dust
bothers you, use the mower method. The trimmer method will do a much better job
though to mince up the leaves into little bits.
