Joe not convinced yet ? But I'm learning a lot, Is the following not true
706.5 selfed gave a 962 Plus
724 selfed gave a 706.5 Minus
573 selfed gave a 724 Plus
674.5 selfed gave a 573 Minus
472 selfed gave a 674 Plus
It appears that every second year you get a plus which if it holds true means
the 962 will give a minus in this generation. Interesting subject.
It would be interesting to know how many of the top 100 or 50 pumpkins came
from first gen. selfed seed, might really give a truer picture then as to first or
second generation selfing works in the overall scheme. %

Been waiting for a good opportunity to jump in- thanks guys
I have spoken with a professor on C. maxima plant breeding and it has been shown that this particular species DOES NOT lose plant vigor through imbreeding. Obviuosly the Willemse line of fruit are the best example of that. Sorry Bill, but you cant compare fox to pumpkins.
The problem lies in that there havent been enough seeds grown from multiple generations of imbreeding. Therefore there isnt enough data to draw conclusions from.
Great job putting up that chart, Rock. That is some great info there.
Thanks,
