Hi,
Just wanted to add my two cents worth about the size versus "size, shape and
color" discussion, since I agree that it would be nice to have the best of
all three worlds.
Although the huge pumpkins are breath-taking, it would be much more
impressive if they looked more like traditional Halloween pumpkins with
attractive shape and deep orange color. If it's possible to have
"everything," then that's what I want, too. Are these ambitions too lofty?
Maybe if this was possible, it would have already been done?
If it is still possible, I guess it would temporarily set back the progress
being made on weights alone, but given a little extra time and patience,
maybe the goal of having the ultimate Halloween pumpkin could be reached.
Once the weights reached our current maximums, the increases could just keep
on going. The bonus would be that, in a glance, it would be perfectly clear
that they are actually pumpkins and not some type of squash. They would be
much more pleasant to look at and no one would be heard commenting that,
"they sure are big, but kind of ugly with their lumpy, bumpy, pale,
ungraceful appearance." Of course, "I" would never say that, but there are
those tactless types out there insensitively say what they see.
