RE: South African Pumpkin Growers

Hello Jan. I have done a similar thing here in Australia.
But what worried me was when I dug down the ground was real hard,
then I started thinking.......where will the water go if I over water it.
I might end up growing it in a muddy swamp.
So then I had to dig a drain for it.
I don't want to scare you but just keep that in mind.
I know what it's like to wait for your seeds. I've been waiting myself.
My second seed only arrived 3 days ago. A Bax 990.
I have a Greer 1006 thats doing well.
I plan on cross pollinating them.
One thing I have to ask.....is Jan male or female?
Am I getting too personal?
Maybe you could join the war with New Zealand. John and I are only
doing it to keep the Americans amused. You could take sides or become
a third party.
Where in S Africa are you, I'd like to look it up on a map.
Hope you get your seeds soon. Good luck.
Gotta go and fight my war.
See ya.

I am one of the few South African Giant Pumpkin Growers. I have start
preparing the soil of our pumpkin patch. The way I prepare is a bit
different than the usual. We had a slight problem here. The soil is very
poor, and I decided to dig 4 feet deep holes, about 10 feet by 10 feet. I
then started filling the hole with some compost, some good soil and monure
and mixing some ferteliser in. I water the patch each day, for the
ferteliser to disolve and for the nutriets to break up into the soil. I am
now ready to plant the seeds, but only one problem, I'm still waiting for
the seeds to arive in the post.

I 'll try to keep everyone updated on how everything is doing. By the way,
does anyone know what the South African record is??
