Marv,

You plan sounds good! But selection of which plant to keep is a bit more
complex. Some of these genetics behind these monsters have traits of what
i call sleepers. The 697 and to some extent the 1006 are in this category
mine were not fast growing vines. This year I almost pulled my 1006
because it seemed to be lacking aggressive vine growth. Seemed to be slow
and methodical maybe laying out a killer root system. Then when you don't
think it will do much the plant starts to pick up its pace especially
after fruit set. It ended up being one of my largest pumpkins. But was
one of the smallest plants all season long......Now all we need to do is
find out if that was the experience of those that grew the 697 and 1006 or
was it that the soil nutrients became more available........???????
