It would never be effective or successful if everyone grew the same genetically
configured pumpkin. In order for any change, there must always be genetic
variation. Without several different "genetic recipes" for varieties of Giant
pumpkins, our "pumpkin culture" would stagnate, with no room for genetic change;
we would have to concentrate upon improving the growing environment. It is
imperative thqat we do retain as many strains as possible, to keep the genetic
materail available for future use. otherwise we breed ourselves into a "genetic
corner", with nowhere to go.
    Of course, if we did "breed into a corner", it would engender a new sport:
"pumpkin fanatic watching". Who knows what weird or exotic new technique our pet
fanatics (yes, I include You, Marv) will try, in order to achieve their
perverted goals.I find the thought of crooning & making love to my pumpkins a
bit much, but , Marv, there have been rumors.......
