RE: lineage/genetics/characteristics

Bob,
(1) Okay, this is how it goes. I got 2 seeds, from 2 different
pumpkins. dills 715, and mombert's 750.

(2) I planted both, and self pollinated both.

(3) Dills 715= 567.5 mombert (mother) X 804 Zehr (father)

(4) Mombert 750= 567.5 Mombert (mother) X 804 Zehr (father)

(5) the 715 produced a pumpkin for me that was very deep ribbed, very
very cantelouped, and light orange in color. Since it was self
pollinated, it should produce the same outcome next year.

(6) the 750 produced a pumpkin for me that was smoothed skinned, and
very, very, very, orange. since it was self pollinated, it also should
give the same results

Now, the question is, obviously the lineage is identicle for both
of these pumpkins. They have the same parental background, just grown
by different growers. So far, so good. Niether one had any sort of
diseases, ie mosaic or anything else. Now theoretically, they are i
guess siblings so to speak, they each had the same mother and the same
father, which is what would have shown up when i planted. Meaning the
cross came out this year. They looked nothing alike. I'm just curious
as to know why. Like i said earlier, my brother and myself don't look
exactly alike, but you can tell we are related. These two looked so
different. wondering why.....

I want into this discussion.

Scott

Were the two seeds from the same pumpkin?

Bob

Rocky,
Actually, i left a very important part of the equation out. i self
pollinated both of them, meaning I should get similiar results next
year. That part i understand. the part I don't understand is that they
have the same exact background, yet look totally different.
