O.K., sorry that I haven't replied to all of you who have written aboutthe
seeds from my pumpkin (yeah the infamous "plowed" one).
It seems that so far all the good seeds I have been able to recover is about
20. I took out the flat and soft ones, and that is all that is left. The seeds
are a result of a self pollinated 618 Wallace, which was from a self
pollinated 567 Mombert. So it is a more purified strain of the 567 Mombert,
which I am guessing would be the best for crossing with another heavier strain
to produce a superior hybrid seed, (hopefully)!
As you know the 567 Mombert has about the best genetics you can get, and the
Wallace didn't have any splitting problems at all, while the others, grown in
the same conditions, did. So it might even breed in a resistance to splitting.
So, the best thing I can figure out, is first, to find someone who has another
top strain that they are growing, (that might be able to benefit from a
resistance to splitting), like the 627.5 Hester, or one of the 1006 or 1092
strains, etc.
ALSO, I am hoping to send some seeds to someone south of the equador (or in a
tropical climate?) who can still grow them this year! That way, it would be
great to find out how they are doing all winter, and have the resulting seeds
for next spring, etc.
So anyway let me know if anyone can do this!
And I will try to reply to everyone who wrote me already, and I am hoping I
can at least get 1 seed to everyone, if I don't find any more, (I am still
hoping I can find some more).
Also, if you guys who know more about genetics and stuff, please let me know
your advice about crossing this, and what would be best, etc.
