My friend and fellow southern grower, Frank Millican in the great state of
Louisiana asked me to post the recent results of his soil test to the list for
suggestions on how to correct for pumpkins. The ag officer in LA is not sure
how to correct the soil for AGs, and offered no advice.
His patch is 20 x 50 ft. tilled 15 inches deep or so. This sample was taken 3
weeks after his cover crop was turned in, with an application of 13-13-13 and
5 or 6 cubic yards of goat manure. His soil is coastal Louisiana; fine sandy
loam. He recently added 40 lb of lime to correct the pH.
Here is the soil analysis:
pH 5.9
Phosphorous 1224
Sodium 269
Potassium 2017
Magnesium 408
Calcium 1263
Bases 16.0
Organic Matter 1.63
Frank monitors the digest, so please feel free to post your responses to the
list or to me directly, so that I can personally forward to his private e-
mail.
Thanks!
Barb
