Re: [Re: Cross pollination question]
I have been thinking about the effect of the pollinator
on this year's pumpkin. I don't think that it can change the
seed between white and tan this year, but maybe seed size can
be influenced. I had three fruit on a 595 Stellpflug plant,
which is a cronic small seed producer for me. I harvested a
608 split pumpkin off of the plant and it had very small seeds.
The 608 was pollinated with the 801.5 Stelts. I also cut open
an open pollinated fruit and its seeds were much larger. I
have two more fruit that were pollinated on the plant. One
was pollinated with 930 Emmons (very large seeds) and the other
with 827 Holland (a small seed originaly). The 801.5 Stelts
seems to have some pretty small seeds in its ofspring, but the
plant that gave pollen for the 608 was my seedless 801.5.
Maybe there is some effect on this year from the pollinator.
I am sure the only thing to be affected is the seed, and I don't
know anyone compares taste so seed size is the easiest thing to
see a difference in.
