I realize you make brief mention of it below but you
do not have to be an AOL member for this to work.
Millions of people use AOL Instant Messenger
regardless of which ISP you use. Just download it
from AOL's homepage, register a screenname and then
launch Instant Messenger anytime you are online. It
is just like many other instant messenging services
like ICQ or Yahoo Messenger. You can then create a
"Pumpkin" buddy list and identify anytime someone on
your list is online. This is by no means a promotion
of AOL either, I'm quite indifferent about it (I don't
use AOL but I do use Instant Messenger) but I thought
it important to note that anyone can use it and it is
a great way to collaborate "live" among people with
common interest in giant pumpkins.
