George: The Connolly pumpkin was the first to break the 1000 lb mark
in New England, the winner across the USA should be known by this
weekend when most of the other site weigh-off, Topsfield was a week
early this year.
The prize money for breaking the 1000lb mark was $10,000 this was a
one time prize.
THe Connolly pumpkin is on display until Columbus day at the
vegetable barn at the Topsfield fair.
The pumpkin was grown in Sharon Mass. so i don't think that climate
differs.
The caterpillar is most likely the dreaded Squash Vine Borer.
Howard Dill has a PVP (plant variety protection) he is the one who
developed the seed, and he has the rights to decide who sells them in
the USA.
